McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park in Scottsdale has completed several major improvements as it approaches its 50th anniversary. The upgrades include the Roundhouse, a 10,000-square-foot indoor play space with a locomotive-shaped structure and a multipurpose room for events. A new 5,000-square-foot splashpad was also added, providing families with an option to cool off during the city’s hot months. The park’s entry plaza was redesigned to feature shaded seating, landscaping, public art, new restrooms, lighting, and improved pathways.
The total cost of these enhancements was $13.1 million. Funding came from bond financing approved by Scottsdale voters in 2019 and contributions from the Scottsdale Railroad Mechanical Society, which offered technical expertise and volunteer support.
Since the opening of the Roundhouse and splashpad on August 1, more than 39,000 visitors have come to the park. This led to a 160% increase in summer attendance compared to last year.
The park will celebrate its official 50th anniversary on October 4 with a Golden Jubilee event during Railfair weekend (October 4–5). The celebration will include live music, activities, historical displays, and a ceremony recognizing the park’s history.
Other annual events scheduled at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park for the remainder of 2025 include Halloween Spook-Track-ula from October 10-31; Holiday Lights from November 29 through December 30; and Noon Year’s Eve on December 31.
“McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park has always been a place where generations come together,” said Stephanie Tippett, parks and recreation manager. “To be able to unveil these major improvements the same year the park turns 50, is so incredible for our staff and community.”
