Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky will hold a town hall meeting on May 27, offering residents the chance to discuss water supply concerns and hear from an Arizona State University law professor. The event is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Granite Reef Senior Center.
The upcoming town hall focuses on potential cuts to the Central Arizona Project, which provides much of Scottsdale’s municipal water from the Colorado River. Residents are invited to learn about challenges facing local water security and ask questions directly of city officials and experts.
Borowsky serves as a member of both the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association Board of Directors and the Coalition for Protecting Arizona’s Lifeline, organizations that work toward long-term water security in Arizona. KTAR Radio Host Mike Broomhead will emcee the event, which features Rhett Larson, Richard Morrison Professor of Water Law at ASU’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. Larson also acts as general counsel for AMWUA and will present an overview of Colorado River issues and their impact on Scottsdale’s allocation.
“Water is one of the most important issues facing our city and our region,” Mayor Borowsky said. “This town hall is an opportunity for residents to hear directly from an expert, ask questions and engage in a meaningful conversation about how we plan for Scottsdale’s long-term water future.”
The Granite Reef Senior Center is known as a community hub where residents can participate in civic discussions. Seating may be limited; attendees are encouraged to arrive early.
Borowsky has supported community service initiatives for children, older adults, and underprivileged youth through board roles; she has also emphasized resident engagement through updates and reports during her tenure as mayor according to the official website. She previously served on Scottsdale City Council from 2008 to 2012 advocating fiscal conservatism and budget improvements, maintaining lifelong residency in Scottsdale according to the official website.
