The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) has approved a funding change that secures $29.29 million for Scottsdale’s planned improvements to Scottsdale Road between Jomax Road and Dixileta Drive.
The MAG Regional Council finalized the decision, which concludes several months of efforts by the City of Scottsdale to shift the project’s financing from federal funds to regional Proposition 400 sales tax revenue. The adjustment was required after design changes at Scottsdale Road and Dynamite Boulevard made the project ineligible under its original federal grant.
To prevent the loss of allocated funds, MAG collaborated with Scottsdale to identify other projects where federal dollars could be used, allowing regional half-cent sales tax money to be redirected into the Scottsdale Road project. According to MAG, this approach preserves full funding for the city while ensuring all affected projects remain in compliance with the Arterial Life Cycle Program.
The necessary adjustments were included in MAG’s FY 2026–2030 Transportation Improvement Program before receiving final approval.
City Manager Greg Caton stated, “This action by MAG protects a significant investment in our community. Our Transportation and Infrastructure team worked closely with MAG to secure a solution that keeps this project fully funded and moving forward, supporting mobility and safety for residents and visitors.”
MAG officials acknowledged Scottsdale’s prompt response and cooperation during the process.
With funding secured, Scottsdale will proceed with design and construction planning for what is considered an important regional corridor improvement.
