Rep. Joseph Chaplik announced his resignation from the Arizona Legislature to focus on his campaign for the Congressional District 1 seat, following Rep. David Schweikert’s decision to step down.

On February 19, 2026, Chaplik posted: ” CAMPAIGN UPDATE:

With all the support behind me for the run for the Congressional seat (CD1) that David Schweikert is stepping down from, I am going to be resigning from AZLEG next week.

To best serve my constituents, I am fully committing to our campaign.

More to follow.”

Chaplik has also received endorsements as he launches his campaign. On February 20, 2026, he wrote: “Very honored to have the endorsement of Senator @JohnKavanagh_AZ.

I’ve served with John for all six sessions of my tenure at AZLEG and it means a lot to have his support.”

Two days later, Chaplik announced another endorsement in a post dated February 22, 2026: ” Endorsement from one of Scottsdale’s finest:

Three term fmr. Mayor Jim Lane (2009-2021) has endorsed my campaign for Congress.

Thank you for the support Jim”

Chaplik, a Republican elected in 2023 to represent Arizona’s 3rd House District after replacing Andres Cano, is seeking higher office as Schweikert leaves Congress.
