U.S. Congressman David Schweikert, who represents Arizona’s 1st district, shared updates on meetings with local leaders and concerns about federal borrowing in a series of posts on March 17 and 18, 2026.
On March 17, Schweikert posted about his engagement with Prescott officials: “Good meeting with Prescott city leadership on airport operations and the work ahead at Prescott Regional. Most people would never guess it is the 18th busiest airport in the country by total aircraft operations.”
Later that day, he addressed national fiscal issues, stating: “We are now borrowing $93,884 every second this fiscal year. Not Republican or Democrat. Just math.” This comment highlights ongoing debates over federal spending and budget deficits.
On March 18, Schweikert discussed another meeting with municipal leaders: “Glad to spend the morning with Phoenix city leadership. Appreciated the candid conversation on housing and homelessness, water, and the work ahead.”
Schweikert has represented Arizona’s 1st congressional district since 2011 after replacing Harry Mitchell. He previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995. Born in Los Angeles in 1962 and currently residing in Fountain Hills, Schweikert is an alumnus of Arizona State University. In recent elections, he secured victories over Amish Shah in 2024 (51.9% to 48.1%) and Jevin Hodge in 2022 (50.4% to 49.6%).
