Representative David Schweikert, a member of Congress who secured reelection in both 2022 and 2024, has raised concerns about health care spending and travel scams in a series of recent posts on social media.
On December 15, Schweikert posted, “Washington turned health care into financing, not lower prices. For every $1 coming in this fiscal year, we’re spending $1.62. The ACA costs $195B to cover just 7% of the market. 41% pay $0 premiums. 6.4M improper enrollments cost $27B. The technology exists. Washington”.
The following day, he continued his critique of current health care incentives by writing, “We reward volume instead of value. Procedures instead of prevention. Subsidies instead of solutions. That’s the problem I’ll lay out tomorrow at @JECRepublicans and how innovation can fix it.” This message was posted on December 16.
Shifting focus to consumer protection ahead of the holiday season, Schweikert noted on December 17: “More than 50% of Americans will travel this holiday season — and scammers know it. Travel scams surged 500-900%, costing Americans $274M last year alone. We’re issuing a bipartisan warning to protect families before they book.”
Schweikert represents Arizona’s 1st congressional district and has won consecutive elections in recent cycles—defeating Jevin Hodge in 2022 with just over half the vote and prevailing against Amish Shah in the closely contested 2024 race with a similar margin.
