Rep. David Schweikert, U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st district, addressed his constituents and the public in a series of social media posts in early April 2026, covering topics from holiday greetings to federal budget concerns.
On April 5, Schweikert extended well wishes for the Easter holiday: “Easter is a joyful day of salvation for millions around the world. To all those celebrating, my family wishes you a blessed and Happy Easter!”
Shifting focus to fiscal matters on April 7, Schweikert commented on government spending: “Last year, for every $1 Washington took in, it spent $1.43. Interest is now the second biggest expenditure in the federal government. Defense is number five. So the next politician promising a balanced budget tomorrow can start here: what exactly are you cutting?”
Later that same day, he highlighted concerns about federal debt per household: “$289,204 per household. That is your share of the federal debt right now. Washington added another $20,515 per household in just one year.”
Schweikert has represented Arizona’s 1st district since 2011 after replacing Harry Mitchell and previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995. He was born in Los Angeles in 1962 and resides in Fountain Hills. He holds degrees from Arizona State University earned in both 1988 and 2005.
In recent elections, Schweikert secured his seat by defeating Amish Shah in 2024 with a margin of 51.9% to 48.1%, and Jevin Hodge in 2022 by a narrower margin of 50.4% to 49.6%.
