Rep. David Schweikert, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st district since 2011, addressed issues of government transparency, public trust, and Medicaid reform in a series of tweets posted on April 16, 2026.

In his first post at 18:36 UTC, Schweikert stated, “Congress quietly paid out more than $17 million of taxpayer money to settle sexual harassment claims. My philosophy is simple. If it is taxpayer money, the public deserves the information. That goes for the JFK files, the Epstein files, UFOs, and what happens here in Congress.”

Later that day at 18:57 UTC, he questioned voter confidence in government by writing, “For a republic to work, people have to believe in it. Right now, do voters actually trust their government?”

At 22:00 UTC on the same day, Schweikert turned his attention to Medicaid reform: “Medicaid should be about care, not cash. My bill would eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse that has riddled state Medicaid programs for far too long.”

Schweikert has been an active member of Congress since succeeding Harry Mitchell in 2011 and previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995. He was born in Los Angeles in 1962 and currently resides in Fountain Hills. Schweikert graduated from Arizona State University with degrees earned in both 1988 and 2005.

He has maintained his seat through competitive elections; most recently defeating Amish Shah in the 2024 general election with just over half the vote (51.9%), and Jevin Hodge in the closely contested 2022 race with a margin of less than one percent.
