Rep. David Schweikert, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st district since 2011, has recently addressed concerns about federal borrowing and fiscal policy in a series of posts on his official social media account.
On March 18, 2026, Schweikert posted: “So much for April.” On March 19, he followed with another post focusing on the national debt: “This is where the math gets ugly. Once publicly held debt hits 100% of GDP, mandatory spending and interest start deciding what gets squeezed.”
In a third post on March 21, Schweikert highlighted concerns over the burden placed on future generations: “There were 3.6 million babies born last year. For every one of them, we put about $600,000 on that child’s card in a single year. That is the ratio of our borrowing. Productivity is the answer. You reward investment. You let competition work. You use technology to bring down”
Schweikert has represented Arizona’s 1st district in Congress since replacing Harry Mitchell in 2011 and previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995. He was born in Los Angeles in 1962 and currently resides in Fountain Hills.
In recent election cycles, Schweikert secured victories against Jevin Hodge in 2022 and Amish Shah in 2024.
He won reelection against Shah with a margin of approximately four percentage points. Schweikert is an alumnus of Arizona State University.
