Rep. David Schweikert, who represents Arizona’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on his official X account on May 20 and May 21, 2026, addressing issues ranging from inflation to federal powers and healthcare fraud.
On May 20, Schweikert wrote about the economic challenges faced by Arizonans: “Arizona was hit hard by Biden inflation. We delivered historic tax cuts so families in our community can keep more of their paychecks. For Arizona families, that means roughly $7,400 to $10,600 more in real take-home pay.” This statement follows a period of rising prices nationally and ongoing debate over fiscal policy.
Later that day, Schweikert referenced constitutional principles regarding congressional authority: “Interference with the power of the States was no constitutional criterion of the power of Congress. If the power was not given, Congress could not exercise it; if given, they might exercise it, although it should interfere with the laws, or even the Constitutions of the States.”
On May 21, Schweikert addressed healthcare fraud detection methods: “Health care fraud should not be hiding in a fax machine. If we are going to use AI to find waste and fraud, the data has to come in electronically. Give the tools usable data, and we can find bad actors faster before taxpayers get stuck with the bill.”
Schweikert has represented Arizona’s 1st district since 2011 after replacing Harry Mitchell in Congress (source). He previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995. Schweikert won re-election against Amish Shah in 2024 with 51.9% of the vote and narrowly defeated Jevin Hodge in 2022 (source). Born in Los Angeles in 1962 and currently residing in Fountain Hills at age 61, he holds two degrees from Arizona State University.
