Rep. David Schweikert, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st district since 2011, has raised concerns about the nation’s demographic trends and healthcare spending in a series of recent posts on his official Twitter account.
On February 25, 2026, Schweikert addressed the challenges posed by an aging population and declining birth rates, stating: “Our population is getting older and we’re having fewer children. The debt math does not care what either party says. We need a wave of investment in plant, equipment and technology so each worker produces more and this country can actually pay its bills.”
The following day, on February 26, 2026, Schweikert commented on issues within the healthcare system: “For too long, health care incentives have been misaligned. On paper, home and community services were meant to help people stay out of nursing homes. In practice, some states have turned loose rules into a billing strategy, and billions in taxpayer dollars go out the door while” He followed up with another post linking to further information: “https://t.co/lsegUoC8Lp”

In recent elections, Schweikert won reelection against Amish Shah in 2024 with just over half the vote (51.9%) and narrowly defeated Jevin Hodge in the 2022 general election (50.4%).
