Rep. David Schweikert, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 1st district since 2011, has raised concerns about the nation’s demographic trends and healthcare spending in a series of recent posts on his official Twitter account.

On February 25, 2026, Schweikert addressed the challenges posed by an aging population and declining birth rates, stating: “Our population is getting older and we’re having fewer children. The debt math does not care what either party says. We need a wave of investment in plant, equipment and technology so each worker produces more and this country can actually pay its bills.”

The following day, on February 26, 2026, Schweikert commented on issues within the healthcare system: “For too long, health care incentives have been misaligned. Schweikert has represented Arizona’s 1st District since replacing Harry Mitchell in Congress in 2011. He previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995. Born in Los Angeles in 1962 and currently residing in Fountain Hills at age 61, Schweikert is an alumnus of Arizona State University with degrees earned in both 1988 and 2005.

In recent elections, Schweikert won reelection against Amish Shah in 2024 with just over half the vote (51.9%) and narrowly defeated Jevin Hodge in the 2022 general election (50.4%).
