The Holland Center and Desert Foothills Land Trust are organizing a public event called “Starry Desert Nights” as part of the Foothills Speaker Series. The event will take place on Tuesday, December 2, at 6:00 PM at the Holland Center in Scottsdale.
Jenny Hall from Paradise Valley Community College is scheduled to speak about astronomy and the science behind stars. After her presentation, attendees can use telescopes provided by Focus Astronomy to observe celestial objects.
Vicki Preston, President and CEO of Desert Foothills Land Trust, said, “This event offers a perfect blend of education and hands-on experience. We’re thrilled to bring together experts like Jenny Hall and Kevin LeGore from Focus Astronomy to share their passion and knowledge with our community.”
The program is free and open to all ages, but registration is required due to limited seating. The Foothills Speaker Series aims to connect residents with the natural and cultural aspects of the Sonoran Desert through lectures on topics such as ecology, history, and recreation.
The Holland Center provides educational programs, arts exhibits, theater performances, and other activities for area residents. Its mission includes supporting lifelong learning and building community engagement in the Desert Foothills region.
Desert Foothills Land Trust works with local communities to conserve land in the North Valley area. The organization has protected nearly 1,100 acres across 29 preserves that are accessible for public use. It was re-accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission in 2022.
