Arizona State Representative Alexander Kolodin has introduced House Bill 2022, aimed at clarifying existing election laws in the state. The bill seeks to address issues related to election timelines and observer presence at voting locations. Kolodin said that the legislation is essential for maintaining election integrity in Arizona.
The proposed bill intends to make permanent a legislative adjustment from 2024 that aligns Arizona’s election timeline with the federal Electoral Count Reform Act. This alignment ensures that presidential election results are transmitted to Congress promptly. Additionally, the bill clarifies that county party chairmen can designate representatives and alternates as observers at voting locations.
Kolodin emphasized the importance of these measures, saying, “This is another commonsense measure that recent election cycles have demonstrated is critical to clean elections in Arizona.” He added that the bill would prevent Arizonans from being disenfranchised due to congressional errors and confirm the role of independent observers at voting sites.
Alexander Kolodin, an attorney and Republican, was elected to represent Arizona’s 3rd House District in 2023. His district includes North Scottsdale, Fountain Hills, and Rio Verde in Maricopa County.
