The Arizona House of Representatives has passed House Concurrent Resolution 2001, known as the Arizona Secure Elections Act. Sponsored by State Representative Alexander Kolodin, this measure aims to establish uniform election rules in the state constitution. The act introduces several key provisions, including requiring government-issued identification for voting and banning foreign contributions to elections. It also sets a deadline for early voting and conditions mail-in voting on proof of citizenship.
Representative Kolodin emphasized the importance of clear election rules, stating, “Arizonans are done with excuses, delays, and chaos in our elections.” He highlighted that the resolution ensures that “citizens vote, voters show ID, foreign money stays out,” and ballots are counted promptly.
The legislation now moves to the Arizona Senate. If approved there, it will be placed on the ballot for voters to decide in the next general election. Kolodin was elected to represent Arizona’s 3rd House District in 2023, succeeding Alma Hernandez.
